In the eighteen years that the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) was stationed in Lebanon, its soldiers were subject to ceaseless guerilla warfare and terrorist attacks. In 1996, a bomb exploded on the side of the road in southern Lebanon. IDF soldiers routinely rushed to the scene only to find the bomb was only a decoy. Moments after they arrived, a second bomb detonated. A local cameraman captured the blast and the final minutes of four young soldiers’ lives.
Not long after these events took place, the IDF agreed to escort one grieving family into enemy territory to visit the site of their son’s death. “Lebanon Does Not Believe in Tears” intertwines the footage of the blast with the story of this family who represents a nation of loved ones lost to the evils of war and hatred.
